Tom Ford's Fall/ Winter 2009/ 2010 men's campaign artfully composes duality as he updates the 1940's and 50's corporate look, slimming the silhouettes, infusing them with patterns, and enlivening it all with bold color.
The campaign uses nothing more than a grey background, typical of online catalogs, yet, still conveys unfounded luxuriousness. Though a mild gesture, the model's personality is tantamount here--using cunning facial expressions and dashing posses to show the line's perfunctory style.
Ford appoints his collection with immaculately tailored and richly colored smoking jackets coupling them with bold plaid pants. The edgy and preppy look has a duality that flaunts bold gestures within a conservative framework. He accomplishes this by setting his bold ideas against the marked conservatism of 1950's attire; dashing color through thoughtful patterns or emblazoning pants with vivid plaids. Fords' idea is well developed here even going so far as to include the popular eye wear of the time that was once a conservative gestures, now vintage paraphernalia distinguishing liberal sensibility.
