Vogue Korea has taken hold of the sportswear trend pervading both their April and May editions. First, scrimmaging the style playing-field with football-inspired shoulder pads, knee guards, and helmets for their April 2010 issue; now, making power plays with basketball athletica punctuating their editorials for the May 2010 issue. Both spreads are interesting fusions of couture and athletica, there seems, however, little thought progressing the idea with styling or photography. In fact, there’s a creative atrophy here: one that disguises beautiful garments behind playful ideas and boldly simple gesture, a malaise that only asks viewers to look at the pictures rather than investigate them; their labels, their photographers, their stylists, their models.
